Too Many Drafts: My Daylight Savings Hacks

The title says it all: I've made too many drafts and not enough published posts. But that's okay, and I can accept that. There's so much uncertainty right now and I'm doing my best to just get to the next day. The time will be changing soon, which will then make it darker much earlier, and I will be a sad, unmotivated person when I get home from work. I'm doing my best to make my apartment as cozy as possible, and I've implemented some ideas to do so.

1. I got these battery operated string lights from Five Below (a long time ago actually) that run on 2 AA batteries. I used some mounting putty to stick the pack onto the wall above my shower and used more of the putty to line the string light around the top of the wall near the ceiling. Evening showers are now not as harsh and very relaxing. These battery packs would be even more useful if I used rechargeable batteries.

2. A sunset lamp! I got a sunset lamp a couple years ago for the very purpose of wanting a nice orange glow to simulate a sunset. It sounds pretty dystopian, but it does work. Currently, I have it set behind our TV and it creates a nice back-lit glow into the room.

3. You know those tall, cheap floor lamps that you can get from Walmart that only use one light bulb (the Mainstays brand)? A cost effective way to make it a little fancier is to thrift a lampshade that will fit on top. It hides the shade that is currently on it and now looks like a nice floor lamp and creates a welcoming and warm environment in our bedroom with the perfect amount of light.

4. Cracking open your windows. It will be cold, but the influx of fresh air will certainly make your place less stuffy. It gives you more reason to dress in comfy clothes and lay in bed with all the blankets. I try to do this daily so I can get some outside time without having to be outside.

5. Get on a multivitamin. I've just started to get on one and will report back at some point on how I feel from it. A multivitamin is okay to take everyday, but should not be used as a main source of vitamins and minerals. You should still eat healthy and get plenty of exercise while taking a multivitamin. These can help your mood.

6. Getting exercise! Dopamine is the main hormone that is hard to come by when the time changes. I will be writing an article about the exercises that work for me as someone who struggles with starting exercising. They will all be beginner based exercises. I'm just not what I was when I was a teenager anymore!

7. Lighting a candle. The candle doesn't even have to be scented, although a nice scent can bring joy. I really just favor low light environments in the evenings/nights, as higher lighting can disrupt the production of melatonin for sleeping.

I have implemented all of these things and have seen a difference in my mood. The things that work for me may not work for you. I don't have much money but I make do with what I have, and I am grateful for what I have. The exercise article will be coming soon! Have a wonderful week ahead!
